Life in Cambodia
This is the best place to sit down and relax under pepper trees (which Cambodia is famous for)
and work online, write, and rely on strong wifi. Peace Cafe.
This Cafe is a vegetarian restaurant with a beautiful garden to sit in and delicious food. You’ll be thrilled to find it. I’d bike here from Rosy’s Guesthouse every day to get some work done. Arriving early you get peace and quiet. Later in the day it’s more buzzy.
Are you looking for a place to stay? Rosy’s is the best guesthouse in Siem Reap Cambodia. And it’s not far from Angkor Wat.
Don’t even try to find another place to stay. This guesthouse is top notch and at a price you can afford. Strong internet connection, restaurant on site, and comfortable rooms with air conditioning.
It’s on the canal, so you can easily get everywhere in town from there.
Siem Reap Cambodia has stolen my heart.
I extended my 30-day visa and now have another month to enjoy this country.
Cambodia is immediately breathtaking. You don’t expect to fall for it but there you are getting dizzy from the beauty and friendliness.
Then a cold coconut in your hand to drink from the cart in front of Rosy’s guesthouse. And the hot weather is suddenly breathable.
My 2-month tour in Cambodia was vivid; it included Otres Beach, Phnom Penh, Kep, Kampot, and Siem Reap.
Otres Beach: beautiful sandy shore but I’ve heard it’s been ruined by gambling and litter. Too bad because this was my favorite place outside of Siem Reap.
Kampot: This town was enchanting. It’s on a silken river for swimming and I got $4 USD massages from the school of the blind.
Best massages I ever had. I stayed a week and it wasn’t long enough. I know I’d be surprised if I went back as it’s been over ten years since I visited so you know things have changed.
But if you’re considering a longterm stay in Cambodia check out Kampot or Siem Reap.
Another surprise was Phnom Penh.
This town is brimming with intriguing food markets, gorgeous temples, and affordable housing. It does come with loads of traffic but you have to love the prices and the vibe in Phnom Penh. There’s a waterfront park so you get the outdoors experience in a huge town.
Stay in the historic downtown area as the restaurants, fish market, and transportation options are easily walkable.
You’ll find air-conditioned rooms for less than $25 per night and the food is delicious too. Walk over to the Foreign Correspondents Club to meet cool people and have a drink.
Their terrace is open and inviting; overlooking the downtown area.
One thing I definitely advise is this: once you’re on the ground be open to guesthouses run by Cambodians who don’t speak English. Why?
Because they will have the best rates. And want to talk with you to practice their English. Win-win.
I’d like to return to Cambodia as it’s far easier than Thailand for visas. As a USA citizen you can enter Cambodia and get a 6 month visa if you like. This is a huge bonus. I didn’t expect to stay for 2 months so I got the 30 day visa. Next time I’ll stay longer.
My intention was to travel to Vietnam from Cambodia. But I loved Cambodia. My feet wouldn’t take me out of this country.
And the longer I stayed the more I didn’t want to leave.
