How is Life and SoloTravel Different at Age 65 Plus
Suddenly I’m 67 and this decade has been a seismic jolt in a good way. This year I noticed when people were getting negative with me. But I didn’t pick up the bait.
This was an evolution as I used to be argumentative wanting to prove my point. Maybe it’s the long line of lawyers I come from.
How has Life and Solo Travel changed for me?
Proving my point takes energy. And disturbs my peace. So I stopped doing it.
Life looks better without proving anything. 2 + 2 = 5? You’re right. I’m walking away now. Far away. God bless you.
So this is How Life and Travel is Different Now at Age 65 Plus
Here’s what I’m noticing as I travel: more elders are traveling with physical challenges than ever before. For example.
Being on a recent flight; we arrived at our destination airport.
This was the announcement: anyone needing help to leave the plane please stay in your seat. 20% of the passengers stayed seated waiting for assistance and wheelchairs.
Are You Age 65 Plus?
Do you want my top 5 countries for solo travel you can arrange right now?
You’ll enjoy these countries because you’ll see how easy it is to be solo in each one.
Don’t let people stop you from having fun; you can do it with some help.
One night I was waiting for a train to San Francisco from Mount Shasta, California. It was 1AM and a few of us were waiting at the station for the train to pick us up.
This woman navigating her walker, who was maybe 70 or 75 was chatting with me and said, “I want to see the world!” Passionately proclaiming, yes I want adventures.
And side note; Amtrak will assist you getting on and off the train if you need it.
Maybe her family and friends told her not to go. But there she was, solo, in the middle of the night waiting for the train just like me.
She didn’t let age or using a walker derail her traveling gusto.
How is life different now? I say No, more than I used to. Why?
Before saying yes to something I ask myself a few questions.
Will saying Yes steal my peace?
Will I lose sleep over it?
Does this Yes take away from me caring for myself?
So I get my answers. And it usually is a no. What do I need time for? Fun, creativity, relaxation, travel, spiritual growth, walking, and eating.
And I practice being peaceful and realizing every day, as my Dad used to say, when asked how he was doing, “I woke up and saw the ceiling today.”So we don’t have much time here.
Treat your loved ones tenderly and enjoy every moment.
Are you itching to launch your own world travel?
Here’s how I started in 2005. Do you crave a life change of adventure and fun? Check out my books on Amazon
Do you want to change your life? Yes?
Ask yourself if you want to volunteer abroad, camp solo, go on a day-trip to the ocean, visit your family in another country, or learn how to do yoga.
You’ll get your answer and then you can take baby steps to your goal. You’re not too old, too solo, or too disorganized, you can do it!
If you want to visit Mexico City I have some suggestions for you here.
Hotels I’ve Stayed In
And I can recommend these places because I’ve stayed in each one. I earn a few dollars if you book and the price isn’t higher for you as I get a slight discount because I book so often:
Oaxaca City Mexico, Hotel Dainzu
Mexico City, Hotel Astor
Orizaba Mexico, Tenorio Hospedaje
This is the thing: life after age 60 can be better than being younger. You’re at a different plateau in your life.

Where do you want to go next in your travel adventures?
Think about what thrills you. Is it nature, history and museums, hiking, or food?
Being in France last week I’m grateful for the new foods I enjoyed. And the shopping for fresh produce, cheese, wine, and meat. Discovering how to cook up the new things in my own kitchen was fun!
And this salad with gorgonzola cheese from France, it was fast and delicious to make it at my apartment.
Is Food your thing? Go to France and eat your way through the country. You won’t be sorry.
Huge Tip in France
France is not only Paris! Get out of the city and take a train to Reims, Lyon, Normandy, Nice, Lourdes, or Bordeaux.
You’ll experience lower prices than Paris, friendly people, and fantastic food and food- buying markets to stroll through. I recommend the city of Reims, will write more about it in a new post on how to plan your trip to France.
Do you have questions on your next escape, write your comments here and I’ll answer.
