Puerto Escondido Mexico: Bikini Beaches, Smoothies, and Sunsets

This enchanting nature sanctuary isn’t easy to get to and this is the allure!

Yes I took the 11-hour bus ride from Oaxaca City as I wanted to be in a large vehicle on this 159-mile twisty road through the mountains.

You can fly into the town but why not have an adventure?

Lesson learned: I now have two seats instead of one for the journey back to Oaxaca City. On the luxury bus.

Puerto Escondido is a bit under the radar of the constantly crowded Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Puerto Vallarta beach towns. We actually have a few dirt roads here and I’m wondering if it could stay this way.

Puerto Escondido Two Weeks

After 14 days here, this is what thrills me: the beaches, the birds, and the waves. And the lack of crowds.

This may change as we go into the Winter when Canadians and USA people arrive.

But here’s what you get. Stunning beaches, palm trees, friendliness, and a lack of internet access so you can’t do too much work. You have to relax.

Currently I’m producing 3 audiobooks but am down for the count as I ate something bad and I have to recover.

Maybe it was water, unwashed fruit, I don’t know. But this can happen anywhere and in any country.

Bonus: I lost a few pounds.

I wake up every morning to birdsong and coffee in my adobe home, thank you Maggie!

Maggie suggested her beautiful home to stay in by the sea and I’m enjoying the walk to the water, the quiet community of 12 homes and a pool. And best of all kind neighbors.

A dream come true.

Puerto Escondido, Mexico, is a stunning beach paradise known for its golden sands, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant surf culture.

The above photo is the beach I walk to from my front door. Playa Manzanilla. The water is refreshing and inviting. The waves won’t kill you as this isn’t a surfing beach.

You want to cool off? Just jump in.

There is a steep staircase at the end of my road to get to this beach so be prepared to tackle it. You can do it. There is a hand rail for most of the journey.

if you love walking to the beach and resting you'll love visiting this nature gem on the Southern Mexico Coast.

The best hotels I can recommend to you that I'm familiar with are in Oaxaca City which would be a great starting point for your Puerto Escondido adventure.

Hi Mary! Looks like a great spot there in Puerto Escondido. Any lodging you’d recommend there?

Hi Leslie! I recommend coming to visit September to November, it’s getting busy now and prices are climbing. I’m staying at a friend’s house who generously offered her home while she is away. I was looking at Mikasa apartments on booking.com and it has great reviews on google reviews. Not booking. Another photography student who came to Oaxaca City in October, last month, is considering it for the Winter. You should book soon as things are heating up in tourism on this Coast now. Or wait until the low season. Thanks for reading my newsletter/blog. More Mexico news coming.
